What do you do at Guardian Pharmacy of Wisconsin?

I have the privilege of working closely both with community staff and residents outside the pharmacy as well as with my pharmacy staff internally. I make sure the expectations we set for our communities are carried out by everyone in the pharmacy. I spend time each week in workflow and work clinically as well as spend time developing and maintaining pharmacy policies and procedures. As our pharmacy and staff continue to grow, I help manage the on-boarding of new communities and residents to our pharmacy services and ensure new pharmacy staff are developed to the highest level of their potential.

What is your background?

I was born and raised in Wisconsin and this is where my heart is. I love the changing seasons (although I do wish winter was a bit shorter!). I attended pharmacy school at the University of Wisconsin – Madison (Go Badgers!) and moved to Milwaukee shortly after. I spent the first few years of my career managing retail pharmacies in the Southeastern Wisconsin area before joining the Mallatt’s Pharmacy (now Guardian Pharmacy of Wisconsin) team in Menomonee Falls in 2016. It didn’t take long for me to realize that this is the place where I belong. Never have I worked with a staff that is so truly dedicated to the wellbeing of the residents they serve.

What are the values that drive you?

I strive to treat everyone I work with like family. We are in the privileged position to provide care through medication management to some of the most vulnerable residents in our area. These are often people who are unable to speak up for themselves, so I always try to put myself in their shoes as well as the shoes of their loved ones. I ask myself the question “What would I do if my grandmother/grandfather were prescribed this medication regimen?” I manage the workflow and staff within the pharmacy in a similar manner. We see our coworkers 40-50 hours a week, which is often more than we see our own families. So, I try to create a workplace environment that feels like family. We’ve laughed, cried, celebrated successes, and worked through challenges together. I like to think the value we put into our relationships within the pharmacy translates to the care and quality of the services we provide.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl into our family, and it has been such a blessing to watch her grow. We love to go camping, swimming, hiking, and anything else you can do outdoors. I am also an avid runner. I find that it helps me clear my head and focus my thoughts for the day. I have run multiple half marathons and one full marathon. While I don’t plan to put my body through another 26.2-mile challenge, it was such an incredible learning experience for me. I learned that I can do more than I ever thought possible. All it takes is a solid plan, determination, and a pair of comfy running shoes!
