What do you do at Guardian Pharmacy of Wisconsin?

I like to talk with our clients about the challenges they have when providing care to their residents. Through this conversation, I try to develop ways to make their job easier when it comes to medication management. I need to listen and understand their concerns. We work as a team. We need to do everything in our power to take care of our patients/residents.

What is your background?

I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I moved to Madison in 1979 to attend the University of Wisconsin Pharmacy school. I started working as a retail clerk at Mallatt’s Pharmacy. I purchased Mallatt’s Pharmacy in 1992. The rest, as they say, is history. From 1992 to the present, I acquired three more retail pharmacies and a home health agency. I also started a group purchasing organization called the Independent Pharmacy Cooperative (IPC). IPC provides goods and services to over 6000 pharmacies nationwide at substantially reduced prices. This benefits the patients they serve. In the late 1990’s we began our journey into the long-term care arena. In 2016 we decided to focus on long term care pharmacy only so we divested ourselves of the other operations. In 2018 we partnered with a fantastic organization, Guardian Pharmacy Services. Guardian Pharmacy Services combines the purchasing power and the long-term care pharmacy expertise of 37 locally owned long-term care pharmacies across the country. I am the President of the three Guardian Pharmacies in Wisconsin. These pharmacies are located in Madison, Menomonee Falls, and Milwaukee. Together, our three pharmacies serve over 10,000 patients who reside in group homes, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing homes.

What are the values that drive you?

This bible verse says it all: 1st Peter 4:11 “For those with the gift of serving others, do so with all the strength and energy that God supplies.” It is our privilege to take care of those who cannot take care of themselves. It is an awesome responsibility. We try to make a difference every day.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I enjoy being with my family whenever possible. I like playing basketball, golf, landscaping, and reading history books.
