Pharmacy Technician- Retail

Position Summary: The Pharmacy Technician performs day-to-day duties under the supervision of the Pharmacist Manager in accordance with established pharmacy principles, policies and procedures and/or law. 

Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Answer phone and triage phone calls
  • Receiver written prescriptions or refill requests and verify complete and accurate information
  • Unpack/Verify stock-to-invoices
  • Enter patient, insurance and drug information in to computer and dispensing system
  • Provide excellent customer service (i.e., receiving, processing order requests, answering questions and help locate items in the store)
  • Adjudicate prescriptions, problem-solve insurance rejects/call insurance companies when necessary
  • Initiate Prior Authorization paper work, when necessary
  • Create prescription labels and verify labels match medication and fill medication
  • Ordering and stocking of supplies and drugs
  • Stage items for delivery
  • Filling in for Retail Clerk at front desk during lunch periods, handle cash register transactions
  • Be able to operate the Parata Max machine by restocking and general care of the dispensing machine
  • Greet customers at the Pharmacy counter and drive thru
  • Help maintain proper pharmacy order
  • Other duties inherent to pharmacy operations, as assigned

  • 1-2 years experience in a related field; or 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Retail experience preferred


  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent

Professional Licenses/Certifications 

  • CPhT preferred
  • WPAC certified

Physical Job Requirements

  • Sitting and/or standing for up to 8-10 hours/day
  • Having a range of motion from kneeling, to bending over to raising arms above head, to retrieve stock
  • Lifting and/or carrying up to 30 pounds
  • Reading fine and/or small print
  • Working off a computer screen for up to 8 hours/day

Work Status 

  • Full Time
  • Monday-Friday, with shifts ranging from 8:00am-7:00pm
  • Saturdays- 8:30am-3:00pm
  • Sundays- Closed
  • Some holidays
