Why are you passionate about LTC Pharmacy?
For me, there is no better calling than to help those that cannot help themselves. I’m lucky to do that with my team every day. In most cases our patients will never know what we have done for them—and that is pretty awesome. We do it because it is the right thing to do.
What do you like most about your LTC job?
I relish the opportunity to get my team to do more than they think they can do. It gives me great pride when I see my team members excel. Teaching them about life, the ups and downs, and sharing my experiences with them hopefully motivates and inspires them to be the best they can be.
What is your favorite part about assisted living communities and residents?
I remind my staff that the generation we are serving probably shaped this world. It could be a veteran of World War II or other wars fought for freedom. It might be a person who literally built the facility they reside in now (yes that actually happened). One of our residents was responsible for discovering how to mass produce penicillin. Or it could be someone who has been dealt one blow after another in their life. These people need and deserve 150% of our attention, our empathy and our effort.
Famous person to have dinner with?
George Washington. I have read so many books about “the man.” He was a true leader.
If I am not at work I am….
Spending lots of my time with my wife. We love to golf together. I spend a great amount of time with my family, especially my two grandsons. The three of us get in trouble with their mom occasionally (I’ve learned that no footballs are allowed in the house). Have you ever had to take a time-out with your grandsons? Pretty cool. Most weekends you will find me on my basketball court at home, shooting threes. Honing my skills—still waiting for that call from the NBA. A great time for me to think about my next project at work.
