Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects how people interact, communicate and behave.
According to the CDC’s estimates, one in 36 children identified with ASD. ASD can be diagnosed as early as 18 months but is typically not diagnosed until adolescents or early adulthood. There is no actual diagnostic test beyond doctors looking at behavior and development. People with ASD often have problems with social communication and interaction, and restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests.
To shine a spotlight on this disorder during Autism Awareness Month in April, Guardian Pharmacy of Wisconsin held a toy drive donation to help supply the Littles Playgroup. Designed by the Autism Society of South Central Wisconsin Littles Playgroup is a monthly event bringing kids and parents together to socialize, receive moral support and share resources with each other.
